Sy returned as manager at the start of the season after playing a key role in helping the team get promoted to the V-League in 2009. Despite his previous success Sy failed to help the team advance. After 14 rounds, Ninh Binh gained 15 points, ranking 11th in the V-League.
"Ninh Binh's present position is unacceptable. I've been considering replacing Sy for half a month already, but delayed my decision in the hope that things might change. Although firing Sy now might seem too late a tactic, I've been left with no alternative," Truong said.
Chairman Truong has invited coach Nguyen Van Thinh, who is the current technical director of the FirstDivision team Xuan Thanh Sai Gon, to coach Vissai Ninh Binh. Thinh, who achieved success with former V-League champions Song Lam Nghe An in 2009, will officially respond to Truong's invitation by tomorrow, May 18.
"Although changing coaches is normal procedure in football, I need to think carefully before making any decisions regarding future challenges and opportunities," Thinh said.
Sy is the fourth coach to be fired during the 2011 season following the dismissal of Marcelo Javier Juleta of Dong Tam Long An, Ricardo Formosinho of Becamex Binh Duong and Dusit Chalermsan of Hoang Anh Gia Lai.
