VietNamNet Bridge – Viet Nam is likely to bag between 70 and 90 gold medals to finish in the top two at the 26th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Indonesia in November, according to the national sports administration.

Viet Nam will send 560 athletes to compete in 31 of 44 sports in Jakarta, the capital, and at Palembang from November 11-25.


At a meeting of the Southeast Asian Games Federation (SEAGF) in Indonesia last week, the SEA Games Organising Committee will ensure that the sports that Viet Nam has dominated are included.


According to vice chairman of the National Olympic Committee, Hoang Vinh Giang, these are aerobics, petanque (French bowls), rowing and 16 shooting events.


Viet Nam has set its hopes on martial arts events, such as the traditional martial arts (Vovinam), karate, wushu, taekwondo and judo. It also hopes to compete strongly in chess, weightlifting, billiards and snooker.


The hosts will organise 44 sports comprising a total of 545 events in two-week competition.
