VN bags third win at world badminton championships

Viet Nam pocketed its third win at the Badminton World Federation Sudirman Cup in China, beating Australian 3-2 yesterday, May 14.

Australia won the mixed doubles event with Leanne Choo and Robin Middleton beating Duong Bao Duc and Thai Thi Hong Gam 21-14, 21-16.

Viet Nam fought back winning both men's and women's singles matches thanks to Nguyen Tien Minh and Vu Thi Trang, leading national athletes. Minh won 21-9, 21-10 over Daniel Guda and Trang defeated Joy Lai 21-12, 21-7.

The Aussies then levelled the result when Choo and Gronya Somerville beat Trang and Nguyen Thi Sen 21-18, 21-18 in the women's doubles event.

In the decisive men's doubles match, the Vietnamese successfully took the day. Dao Manh Thang and Le Ha Anh won 21-16, 17-21, 21-12 in a 43-minute match.

Viet Nam will play Czech next.

HCM City 1 wins women's team title at national tennis tournament

HCM City-1 won the women's title in the National Team Tennis Championships yesterday (May 14) in Hue City.

They topped the round-robin event after an easy 3-0 win over Da Nang.

Second place went to HCM City 2, who beat Hai Duong 3-0.

Da Nang and Kien Giang shared third place.

The men's final will take place today with the Military team versus the Da Nang team.

HCM City-1 men's team failed to defend their title and will share third place with Binh Duong.

Giang cements top position of nationwide tour

Nguyen Hoang Giang maintains his leader position in the Return to the Countryside cycling tournament, staying on top for three continuous stages after the 79km Soc Trang City-Can Tho City stage yesterday, May 14.

Giang of Hat Ngoc Troi An Giang got a personal best time of 11:47.50 for five stages. Phan Tuan Vu of Can Tho followed, and Giang's teammate Pham Minh Triet pulled into third place.

The fifth stage win went to Nguyen Truc Xinh of Ben Tre. Tran Nguyen Duy Nhan of Military Zone 7 and Nguyen Huu Tien from Domesco Dong Thap came second and third, respectively.

With two of their athletes securing a place in the top three, Hat Ngoc Troi An Giang stands comfortably in position to win the team ranking with a total time of 35:25.48.

An Giang Plant Protection finished second and Vinh Long came in close behind.

Today's sixth stage goes from Can Tho to Tra Vinh City, an 88km stretch.
