The Vietnamese Embassy in Laos held a ceremony in Vientiane on October 27 to hand over nearly 100 photos and maps featuring Ho Chi Minh - West Truong Son Trail to the Lao People’s Army History Museum.

The materials were previously displayed at two photo exhibitions titled “The legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail in Laos during the 1961-1975 period” held in Vientiane and Savannakhet province.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Manh Hung recalled that 55 years ago, representatives from the Labour Party of Vietnam and the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party met in Hanoi, during which the Lao side agreed to expand Ho Chi Minh Trail beyond the Vietnam-Laos border to the west of Truong Son mountain range, which lies in the Lao territory.

This strategic decision greatly contributed to the 1975 victory of Vietnam and Laos, he said, describing the Ho Chi Minh Trail as a symbol of sacrifice and wholehearted support that Laos provided for Vietnam during the war.

The ambassador said the transfer is meant to popularise the glorious history of the Lao army and people, as well as the Laos – Vietnam special solidarity and fighting alliance, adding that Vietnam pledges to partner with Laos to hold more similar exhibitions highlighting the Vietnam-Laos, Laos – Vietnam special relations in the coming time.

Deputy Director General of the Lao General Political Department Vanthong Kongmany, for his part, hailed the historic significance of the materials, and promised to make the best use of them to further tighten the special ties between the two countries.-VNA
