First News director Nguyen Van Phuoc said at a presentation of the new Vietnamese edition of “Mat ngu rung xanh” that the company wants to translate the book into English for overseas distribution because it is full of humanistic values. “We are keen to show that modern Vietnamese literary works also deal with current global issues.”

“Mat ngu rung xanh” highlights the author’s imagination and creativity seen through stories about the lives and feelings of animals and birds in a jungle and a human family that always tries to protect that jungle from huntsmen.

This novel sounds the alarm bell since many Vietnamese people prefer rare and wild animals as specialty food and are ready to spend a lot of money eating it.

In the latest edition of the book, Nam added a new character, the rhino, and strongly condemns the killings of rhinos for its horn.

The book earned Nam the HCMC Young Writer Awards last year.
