Upon addressing the signing ceremony, Tran Anh Tu, vice president of the VFF, stated that the selection of the new head coach of the Vietnamese team has been carried out in strict accordance in the needs of the national sport’s governing body.
For his part, the French coach expressed his joy and pride at taking charge of both the national team and the U23 squad.
Troussier said he believes that through his predecessor Park Hang-seo’s legacy, his own experience, and the huge support from Vietnamese fans, he will lead the national team to conquer all challenges and complete all goals.
He stressed that his goals are not only to consolidate the achievements that former coach Park gained, but also to lift Vietnamese football to new heights at both continental and international level.
The new coach also set the ambitious goal of taking Vietnam to the FIFA World Cup in 2026, when the global biggest men’s football tournament plans to increase the number of participating teams to 48 instead of 32 at present.
The Frenchman's contract with the VFF will initially last for three years, from March 1 to July 31, 2026.
The 67-year-old tactician will work with a coaching team of more than 10 assistants, most of them previously worked with him when he led the U19 Vietnam and worked at the PVF Football Centre when he was there as a technical director.
The first task of the new coach is to lead the U23 Vietnam at the upcoming the 32nd SEA Games which are due to take place in Cambodia in May.
Furthermore, the national team will compete at the 18th Asian Games (ASIAD) which will be held in Hangzhou in China in September and the 2023 Asian Cup which will take place in Doha in Qatar in January, 2024.
