Vietnam bagged three gold medals at the Asia- Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO) on May 19.

The gold medals were won by Nguyen Tien Trung Kien, Nguyen Viet Dung and Phan Duc Nhat Minh from Hanoi University of Natural Sciences’ High School for Gifted Students and Vietnam National University.
The Vietnamese team were also awarded two silver and one bronze medals.
Vietnam, along with the Republic of Korea, ranked third at the APIO, following China and Iran, the best result the Vietnamese team has achieved since it first attended the event in 2013.
This year’s competition drew the participation of students from 27 countries and territories. The contest was held online, with students competing within their own countries or areas.
15 Vietnamese students joined the online competition at the University of Engineering and Technology under the Vietnam National University in Hanoi.
Eight students to attend Singapore Math Olympiad
Eight outstanding students achieving the highest results at the first round of the Asia Pacific Mathematics Olympiad for Primary Schools 2015 (APMOPS), will enter the second round at Hwa Chong Institution of Singapore on May 30.
The students are required to solve six mathematical problems in English or Chinese within 120 minutes.
Forty prizes will be granted to the top 40 contestants in the second round. The first prize winner will receive SGD1000 while SGD800 and SGD500 will be presented to the second and the third prize winners, respectively.
At a ceremony to honour the first round winners in Hanoi on May 18, Vietnamese contestants were honoured with 10 Platinum, 15 Gold, 25 Silver and 48 Bronze certificates.
APMOPS is a prestigious mathematical competition which is organised annually by the Hwa Chong Institution in Singapore for mathematically talented, grade 6 and 7 students in the Asia Pacific region. It attracts nearly 8,000 students from 14 countries every year.
