VietNamNet Bridge – Viet Nam has made another plea for the United States to end economic, commercial and financial embargoes against Cuba.
Ambassador Pham Vinh Quang, Viet Nam's Deputy Representative to the world body, was speaking at the 67th session of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday.
The ambassador stressed that Viet Nam shared views expressed by the international community in its continued opposition to the embargo.
Quang said the embargo contravened the fundamental norms of international law, international humanitarian law, the fundamental principles and purposes of the United Nations own charter.
This was especially relevant when referring to the principles of sovereign equality, non-interference in internal affairs and self-determination of states.
The ambassador said Viet Nam wished to reiterate its support for and solidarity with Cuba.
This is the 21st time in 21 consecutive years the UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution on this issue. It was passed 188 to three.
