VN lose to China in beach soccer tournament

Viet Nam lost to China 2-3 in penalty shoot-out in the first match of the 2015 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup's Asian zone qualifying round in Qatar on March 23.

Viet Nam tied with China 5-5 at the end of the third half, resulting in the penalty shoot-out. Viet Nam will meet Japan and Kuwait in upcoming Group B matches.

The Asian elimination round, in which 17 teams are participating, will end on March 28. The top three teams will compete in the global tournament to be held in Praia da Baia, Portugal, from July 9 to 19.

Currently, the Vietnamese team rank 31st globally and fourth regionally.

Wresting contest to grip Bac Giang

Vietnam’s National Wrestling Championship 2015 opened on March 25 at the Bac Giang Province Sports Gymnasium, with 178 wrestlers set to

compete.

Athletes from 16 provinces and cities will grapple for 28 gold medals at the event. Male wrestlers will vie for glory in two events: Greco-Roman

wrestling and freestyle. Competitors will be divided into nine different weight categories.

Female wrestlers will compete in a freestyle event, with 10 weight classes ranging from 44 to 75 kilograms.

With many experienced athletes, sports teams from Bac Giang and Bac Ninh Provinces and the Ministry of Public Security are expected to

compete for the top three places in the overall ranking table.

The competition is scheduled to finish on April 1.-VNA

Lienvietpost Bank beat China's Fujian

Lienvietpost Bank beat China's Fujian 3-1 (23-25, 25-10, 25-22, 25-22) in Group B of the 2015 VTV-Binh Dien International Women's Volleyball Championship in Quang Tri Province on March 23.

Coming from behind to beat Fujian, Lienvietpost Bank, who defeated Vietinbank 3-0, have won a semi-final berth in the championship.

In Group A, Japan's Tenri University beat Malaysia 3-1 (19-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-15), while North Korea's 4.25 Club crushed Tien Nong Thanh Hoa 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-15).

Today, 4.25 Club will meet Tenri, Lienvietpost Bank will play Kazakhstan's Astana and VTV-Binh Dien Long An will face Malaysia.

Four local and nine foreign clubs are competing in two groups in the US$43,000 championship that will end on Sunday.
