The team of 26 fighters have been practising intensively for months in HCM City under coach Giap Trung Thang.

Among them, Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat (men's 60kg), Le Hoang Duc (men's 48kg), Bui Yen Ly (women's 51kg) and Nguyen Thi Thanh Truc (women's 48kg) are expected to win medals.

They will compete in an open tournament that will be held in Thailand from March 17 to 24, before taking part in the world championship that will be organised in Sweden from May 19 to 26.

Before the fifth ABG, which will be held in Da Nang from September 21 to October 2, the fighters will take a training course in Thailand, the birthplace of the martial art form, in early July.

At the previous ABG in Phuket in 2014, Nhat and Ly won two titles for Viet Nam, along with two silver medals and a bronze medal.

Coach Thang said all fighters were preparing well to compete for the top positions and that all had made remarkable progress in the last two years. Therefore, Vietnamese fighters will meet many challenges to defend their titles, while aiming to get better results on the home turf.
