The decision was not a surprise to Korean head coach Park Hang Seo of the Vietnam national football team. Previously, the UAE and Thailand competed to be the host of second 2022 World Cup qualifiers. Thailand was at a disadvantage due to financial difficulties as well as the lack of control over the Covid-19 pandemic.
Thus, Vietnam and its rivals in Group G knew the venue for the remaining matches. Previously, coach Park Hang Seo identified the UAE as the host of Group G, so he had worked with the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) to have the best preparation.
Park Hang Seo proposed that the Vietnamese team should be trained in a location with the same weather as the UAE because in June the temperature in the UAE can reach more than 40 degrees Celsius.
Currently, Vietnam is leading group G, with 11 points. Its goal in the next 3 matches is to have 6 points, thereby getting a card to the final qualifiers of the 2022 World Cup in Asia.
According to the plan, the Vietnamese team will group up twice before going to the UAE. It is a good news for Park Hang Seo that the group stage of the AFC Champions League will be delayed until the end of June so the best players from Viettel FC such as Trong Hoang, Bui Tien Dung, Que Ngoc Hai can join the national team.
