VietNamNet Bridge – The Department of High-Tech Crime Prevention (known as C50) has said that after a month-long investigation it had arrested six men allegedly taking part in an online gambling ring.

The department, which collaborated with the Criminal Police Department (C45), said on Tuesday that the ring was involved in gambling transactions totalling around VND300 billion (US$13.3 million).

The arrested were La Tung Thinh, 53, and Lai Boi An, 37, from HCM City’s District 10; Lu Vinh Loi, 53, and Lac Thien Long, 42, from the city’s District 11; and Tran Minh Chau, 34, and Nguyen Viet Dung, 30, from Ha Noi.

Thinh and Loi were the ringleaders, police said.  

In July 2016, C50 discovered Vwin.com, a website with a server located in the Philippines that contained gambling activities, including a casino, soccer betting and a lottery, among others. To join, people deposited money that was later exchanged with e-money.  

After months of investigation, on January 9, the police conducted a raid at the suspects’ apartments in HCM City and Ha Noi and seized transaction documents, including more than 50 credit cards, two laptops, two iPads and 12 cellphones, among others.

The six men confessed that they had gambled via Vwin.com, according to police.

The case is still under investigation.
