Accordingly, the PPI for agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector in the first six months of this year increased 1.13 percent compared to the same period last year.

Of which, production prices for agricultural products and forestry products rose 1.72 percent and 4.88 percent, respectively, meanwhile the figure for aquatic products declined 1.3 percent.

PPI for industrial sector declined 0.1 percent as production prices for mining industry declined 9.27 percent.

The factors that affected the industrial production prices included the 7.5 percent rise in price of electricity and the declining price of crude oil compared to previous years.

PPI for service sector increased 2.66 percent, of which prices for education service and those for foods and accommodation contributed the most, by 0.5 percent and 0.4 percent, respectively.

Other groups remained stable with contributions ranging from 0.01 to 0.2 percent meanwhile production prices for transportation and warehousing dropped sharply, contributing a decline of 0.32 percent.

In the first half of the year, export price and import price index declined 3.62 and 3.64 percent, respectively.

ToT, or the ratio of export prices to import prices, increased 0.02 percent compared to the same period last year.

According to the General Director of GSO Nguyen Bich Lam, the PPI release is designed to help businesses and producers to analyse and calculate the efficiency of production activities as well as build and manage business plans.

Meanwhile, export-import price indexes will assist with the research on the impact of prices on export-import activities and serve as a base to manage the exchange rate.
