Director of Viet Nam Railway Authority Nguyen Huu Thang was found dead in his office yesterday in Ha Noi.

A source from the Ministry of Transport confirmed with online news website vnexpress that an employee found Thang dead at his desk.

The source said that Thang showed no abnormal behaviour when he attended a meeting yesterday morning on finding more sources for railway infrastructure projects.

Thang was suspended last April for an irresponsible speech about the Cat Linh - Ha Dong Urban Railway project.

The project was estimated to cost US$552 million, including $419 million in ODA loans from China. However, the construction became controversial after its Chinese contractor reported upon completion that construction costs were $300 million higher than estimated.
