The Vietnamese girl was unable to participate in person at the awards ceremony which took place on December 11 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, through a video set to the awards ceremony, Duyen said music helped her bond with everyone around the world, pledged to work even harder to truly deserve everyone’s love for her.
Duyen released her debut album on March 8. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic her new music received great support from local fans.
Her most popular song, Sài Gòn đau lòng quá, (Dear Sài Gòn! It Hurts) became a viral hit among music fans and subsequently entered the Top Trending YouTube and led iTunes Vietnam rankings.
According to Spotify Vietnam statistics, Duyen’s song received a total of 12.3 million views, accessing 918,000 listeners from 133 countries around the world.
MAMA 2021 also honoured Vietnamese singer Quan A.P. as Best Asian Artist (Vietnam).
Earlier, local singers Orange and AMEE received the Best New Asian Artist at the Mnet Asian Music Awards in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
