Southeast Asian (SEA) Games defending champion Nguyen Van Lai finished first in the men's 10,000m with a time of 30:36.53. Lai's teammate Do Quoc Luat came second with a time of 30:57.81.

Two years ago, Lai had bagged a gold medal in the same discipline at the SEA Games held in Myanmar, with a better time of 29.44.82.

Meanwhile, Pham Thu Hue triumphed in the women's 10,000m with a time of 35:03.89, followed by Truong Thi Thuy Kieu who clocked 38:18.45.

 
 

Luat and Hue also won silver medals in the 5,000m event.

Viet Nam sent five athletes to the two-day event, which was a warm-up for the games to be held in Singapore in June.

18 teams to compete in AVC Women's beach tour

Eighteen teams will participate in the AVC Women's Beach Tour 2015 Tuan Chau-Ha Long Open in the northern Quang Ninh Province, the Viet Nam Volleyball Federation said.

The teams include Australia, New Zealand, Japan and China, besides Thailand, Hong Kong and Kazakhstan.

The tournament will begin on April 30 and end on May 3.

At the same event held last year, Thailand defeated 13 teams to take the title. Australia and New Zealand were the runners-up.

VN to participate in ISSF World Cup

Viet Nam's best marksmen will perform at the ISSF Rifle/Pistol World Cup 2015, to be held in Changwon, South Korea, from April 8 to 16.

The seven-member team includes Hoang Xuan Vinh, Nguyen Hoang Phuong, Tran Quoc Cuong and Ha Minh Thanh.

Vinh won a gold medal in the men's 10m air pistol event in the World Cup last year, while Phuong won a silver medal in the men's 50m pistol event at the 17th Asian Games held in South Korea last year.

In preparation for the Cup, the team have had a training session in South Korea.
