The HCM City-born player didn’t compete in the World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships that took place in Doha, Qatar last month because he was busy studying in the US.

However, Liem’s Elo skill ranking of 2,718 remains unchanged.

Another Vietnamese representative, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, rose one step to world No 156 with an Elo rating of 2,629.

The 25-year-old Liem was the 2013 world blitz chess champion. He was the U14 world youth chess champion in 2005. He competed for Viet Nam at the Chess Olympiads in 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016.
