Vietnamese fashion designer (L) Vo Viet Chung with ao dai ambassador Ly Nha Ky who is sporting one of his Hue khoi xu Nam Ky collection.

The highlight of the collection is that costumes are made from mac nua – a traditional material of people in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang.

Mac nua is a tree which can be produced into a natural dye which turns fabric into black, shiny and water-repellent material.

The material has not been used for a long time and the designer put in great effort to recover it.

The collection includes 30 creations inspired from ao dai (long dress), tails of ao ba ba (Southern traditional loose-fitting blouse) and tail of ao tu than (Northern traditional dress with four parts) in combination with traditional turbans and head bands. All creators will be clipped with 20,000 black pearls of Hoang Gia Company. The pearls are worth VND10 billion.

In the Silk Heritage fashion show, he will also promote his ao dai collection Spring – Summer 2014. The collection is combined with gold jewelry for a 2014 fashion trend.
