Female Vovinam fighter Tran Khanh Trang triumphed in the women’s under 50kg combat division, with Nguyen Van Cuong, Nguyen Binh Dinh, Huynh Khac Nguyen, and Tran Cong Tao also taking gold in the team performance competition with 280 points.

*** Judo artist Ho Ngan Giang’s dominating 11-0 victory in the men’s 60kg division earned Vietnam’s 10th SEA Games gold medal on December 19—the national team’s highest daily total at the Games thus far.

Half an hour earlier, female Judo teammate Van Ngoc Tu beat her Myanmar opponent in the women’s 48kg division to also win gold.

***Vietnamese athlete Do Thi Hao’s time of 4'22''64 brought victory in the women’s 1,500m. Duong Van Thai’s 3’08”02 followed up with another gold in the men’s 1,500m.

*** Track-and-field athlete Nguyen Van Hung broke an SEA Games record to earn gold on the same day. His female teammate Duong Thi Viet Anh joined him among Vietnam’s gold medal winners.

In the men’s 10,000m event, Nguyen Van Lai’s 29’44’’82 finish was enough to win him his second gold medal of the 27th SEA Games. One day earlier, he pocketed a gold medal in the men’s 5,000m race.

As of 05.30pm, Vietnam ranked second on the overall medal tally with 62 gold, 58 silver, and 69 bronze medals.

Vietnam trails Thailand, leading with 79 gold medals, and hosts Myanmar round out the top three.
