A representative of Saigontel said that the channel has been closed from January 23, although a day earlier, the Colour Communication JSC (SGC) – the firm established by VTC and Saigontel and the manager of VTC6 - sent a "SOS" petition to the competent agencies.

In the petition, the SGC required the urgent intervention from the authorities to prevent the suspension of the VTC6 channel. This firm also pointed out a series of damage if this channel is closed. It said the investment in the channel is about VND80 billion ($4 million) and the firm would have to pay VND10 billion ($500,000) of compensation for its partners.

According to Mr. Dao Anh Dung, General Director of SGC, VTC6 is transmitted on two systems: the satellite-ground digital system of VTC and the cable system of HTV. Through the two systems, VTC6 covers most major cities in the country, with millions of viewers.

The VTC said they have no comment about the suspension of VTC6. "The contract between VTC and Saigontel is different from the contract between VTC and SGC, so in this case the SGC needs to raise its voice independently instead of through the Saigontel," a source from VTC explained.

On January 19, Saigontel sent a dispatch to denounce the VTC Multimedia Communications Corporation of breaking the business cooperation contract and appropriating capital and assets to the relevant agencies. Regard to the VTC6 channel, Saigontel said the channel was aired in 2010 and it was broadcasted by the ground digital technology, not by the analog technology as the initial commitment by VTC.

According Saigontel, the total losses that it has to bear is over VND220 billion (over $10 million).
