VietNamNet Bridge – The national television broadcaster VTV has purchased the broadcasting right of the AFF Cup, two weeks before the tournament.

An official of VTV on November 5 confirmed that VTV had signed a contract to buy the broadcasting rights of AFF Cup 2012 with the copyright holder - Dentsu Alpa Co, a Japanese company.

The two sides did not disclose the contract value, but the VTV official revealed that the figure is much lower than the price had offered by Dentsu Alpa.

In early September, Dentsu Alpha, which is authorized by the World Sport Group, offered the price for the copyright of the largest football tournament of Southeast Asia – the AFF Cup - in the three seasons of 2012, 2014 and 2016 at the shocking price of $ 4.2 million.

If the Vietnamese national football team goes to the final, the team will play a total of seven matches at this year's AFF Cup. Thus, each match will cost more than VND4 billion ($200,000) of copyright fee. This is an amount that broadcasters are hard to gain from advertising, particularly in the current difficult time. However, after a period of negotiations, the price was significantly reduced and VTV signed the contract.

Under the contract, all matches of AFF Cup will be broadcasted on VTV. In addition, VTV has the rights to license local television stations to broadcast the games in the territory of Vietnam. This is great news for Vietnamese football fans.
