"As of now, we do not possess the rights to broadcast EURO 2024. However, VTV is making concerted efforts to negotiate with partners to broadcast all matches live, ensuring our audience can enjoy the tournament," a VTV representative told VietNamNet on the evening of June 10.
The representative further noted that VTV has dispatched two crews to Germany to cover the event. In the interim, viewers can expect engaging and insightful sideline programs related to the European football tournament on VTV in the coming days.
Earlier, in late 2023, Viettel Telecom Corporation announced through its TV360 media platform that it holds the exclusive broadcasting and communication rights for the EURO 2024 across all television and social media platforms within Vietnam.
Despite several meetings between TV360 and VTV aimed at sharing the broadcast rights for EURO 2024, an agreement has yet to be reached.
While VTV is still negotiating for the rights, other broadcasters such as K+, VTV Cab, and HTV have confirmed they will air EURO 2024 matches.
With EURO 2024 fast approaching, TV360 and VTV have not finalized a deal regarding copyright sharing. There remains a possibility that fans may not be able to watch EURO 2024 on VTV's channels.
During EURO 2020, VTV broadcast matches on its VTV3 and VTV6 channels. The station also holds broadcasting rights for other significant events, including the World Cup, Olympics, Asian Games, and SEA Games.
Vietnamese football fans, who traditionally watch major tournaments on VTV, are eagerly anticipating the potential broadcast of EURO 2024 on VTV channels.
EURO 2024 is scheduled to take place from June 15 to July 15, with the opening match between host Germany and Scotland at 2:00 a.m. on June 15 (Vietnam time).
