Vietnam Television (VTV) announced on Sept. 16 that it has secured the broadcast rights in Vietnam for the 2026 Asian Games, which will be held in Japan.

Under the agreement, VTV has been granted exclusive rights to exploit ASIAD 2026 content within Vietnam, covering free-to-air and pay television - including terrestrial, satellite and cable services - as well as internet, mobile and video-on-demand platforms.

VTV will broadcast the opening and closing ceremonies live, provide commentary and coverage of competitions, and follow the Vietnam sports delegation throughout the 20th Asian Games. Daily coverage is scheduled to run from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Sept. 19 to Oct. 4.

Audiences will be able to follow ASIAD 2026 coverage on VTV6 and VTV7 as well as the VTVgo app. Video-on-demand content and livestreams of events taking place simultaneously, where available, will be given priority for full coverage on VTVgo.

The Games will also be carried through platforms including FPT Play, MyTV, TV360, VTVCab, VTVprime and SCTV.

VTV is also deploying a large team of reporters and camera crews to Japan, working alongside its correspondents based in the country to closely follow Vietnamese athletes throughout the Games.

The broadcaster said the on-site presence is intended to provide audiences with additional reporting and behind-the-scenes coverage throughout ASIAD 2026.

Securing the broadcasting rights reflects VTV’s efforts to make major international sporting events widely accessible to Vietnamese audiences across multiple platforms while supporting the country’s athletes competing internationally.

Vietnam will send a 498-member delegation to the Games, including 348 athletes competing in athletics, swimming, weightlifting, shooting, rowing, canoeing, sepak takraw, karate, gymnastics, taekwondo, archery, boxing, wrestling, cycling, wushu, kurash, jujitsu, indoor volleyball, beach volleyball, football, judo, golf, handball, badminton, fencing, sailing, teqball, esports, breaking and mixed martial arts.

The 20th Asian Games will take place in Aichi and Nagoya from Sept. 19 to Oct. 4, featuring 43 official sports and 469 medal events.

Vietnam is targeting a top-20 finish in the overall medal standings. At the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, Vietnam won three gold, five silver and 19 bronze medals, finishing 21st overall.
