National television channel VTV yesterday held a press briefing to announce its recently acquired telecast rights of the UEFA Euro 2012, while setting up strict requirements for other TV stations to share or repurchase the rights.

HTV and VTC stations are negotiating to repurchase the rights to broadcast the Euro 2012 from VTV, the latter said at the meeting, adding that finance is the only unsettled issue.

While refusing to elaborate on the real value of the TV rights it has bought, VTV said it is willing to share the telecast rights free of charge to local TV stations, with certain strict requirements.

Specifically, those wishing to obtain the telecast must file a document to VTV for registration, and are required to broadcast the full programs produced by VTV, including ads, and the forecast and commentating shows.

Internet, mobile, and IPTV systems are not allowed to broadcast Euro-related coverage, while newswires are also prohibited from sharing video clips featuring Euro games and goals without a TV rights sharing agreement from VTV, it pressed.

VTV, through its Center of TV Advertisement and Services (TVAD), on March 15 successfully acquired the TV rights to broadcast the matches of the UEFA Euro 2012, set to take place in Poland and Ukraine from June 9 to July 1.

The national TV channel will serve local viewers all 31 matches at the event via its VTV2 and VTV3, said TVAD director Do Thi Lan Huong in a statement.
