Hiphop singer/ dancer Cuong Seven (L) and DJ Silk Bui (2nd, L) are contestants at the launch ceremony for The Money Drop game show held on Tuesday at the Park Hyatt Hotel in District 1.

The Money Drop first debuted in the U.K. in 2010 and has been broadcast in 52 nations around the world. Vietnam is the 11th Asian country to buy the rights to produce the show from creators Endemol.

The original version allows contestants to use one million U.K. pounds for wagers during the show, while Vietnamese players will use the symbolic amount of VND200 million on wagers.

On each show there are teams of two who are siblings, couples or even best friends who receive VND200 million to gamble on eight questions which have four options.

If they bet on a wrong answer, they will lose the deposit money from that question. The answer’s options will narrow as the contestant heads towards the last question to raise the difficulty of the game. Players will have nothing or win VND200 million depending on their last bet.

VTV3 decided to film the show in HCMC instead of Hanoi to lure more audience members. So far it has produced 19 shows of The Money Drop.

It will be aired on VTV3 every Thursday at 8 p.m., starting from January 16.
