VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnam’s billiard star Duong Anh Vu beat Spanish player Daniel Sanchez 40-35 in the first qualifying round of Three-Cushion World Cup 2018, held on Saturday in South Korea.

Vu, 35 in the world rankings, overcame world four-time champion Sanchez, ranked 18, to qualify for Round of 8 to be held today.
After putting points on the board early, Vu continued to get 7 point shots creating a gap with Sanchez.
Though the Spaniard kept chasing and creating pressure, Vu still boosted up and reached 40 points, while Sanchez only got 35 points.
After three defeats to Sanchez in the past, Vu has finally enjoyed his first victory. His next opponent will be Eddy Leppens from Belgium, 19 in the world rankings.
Meanwhile, Nguyen Quoc Nguyen, 16 in the rankings, beat teammate Nguyen Duc Anh Chien, 67 in rankings, at 40-11. He will face Turkey’s Can Capak.
Top player Tran Quyet Chien, seven in world rakings, suffered a shock loss to South Korea’s Kim Jae Guen, 33-40 and Ma Minh Cam was beaten by Greek Filipos Kasidokostas 27-40.
