Doctors perform surgery to remove organs
Dr Nguyen Van Huong, Director of Ba Ria Hospital in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, told VietNamNet that on the evening of May 16, his hospital coordinated with the Organ Transplant Coordination Center of Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City to perform an organ removal surgery on a male patient who was brain dead after a traffic accident.
“The surgery was good and during the night the donated organs were taken to Cho Ray Hospital," said Dr. Huong.
According to doctor Huong, this was the 3rd organ donation case in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province in recent months.
On May 13, Ba Ria Hospital received a man named N.T.T, born in 1980 who had a traffic accident that resulted in brain death. The patient's family decided to donate Mr. T.'s organs to save the lives of many other patients. The donated organs include heart, liver and two kidneys.
At 10:30pm on May 16, the organ removal surgery was conducted. After more than two hours of surgery, at 0:45am on May 17, the surgery was completed.
The donated organs were immediately transported by a specialized car, convoyed by traffic police forces of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province and Ho Chi Minh City to Cho Ray Hospital in HCM City, after only 55 minutes of travel.
By 7am on the same day, two heart and liver transplant patients were recovered, and two kidneys will be transplanted to two other patients.
In early May, a family in Long Son commune, Vung Tau city donated organs of their son, who suffered from brain death after a traffic accident. His organs were used to save the lives of four other people.
