VietNamNet Bridge – Viet Nam Museum of Military History will host an exchange programme for war veterans and students on March 26.

Visitors will be able to learn about previous generations' war experiences and their struggle to repel invaders.

Among the war veterans attending the event will be 70-year-old Nguyen Bang Phi. He lost a leg during fighting in 1966.

While recuperating in hospital, he fashioned an artificial leg from a grenade launcher.

"I could only think about returning to the battlefield to join my comrades," he said.

After fashioning the prosthetic, he approached his superiors about his plan to make artificial limbs for other wounded soldiers. With the help of his companions, he made hundreds of legs for his comrades.

The programme will be broadcast live on Ha Noi Television at 8.30pm.
