The tournament opened on April 24, with the competition of the 56kg category. Twelve weightlifters joined the competition, including two from Vietnam – Le Quoc Toan and Thach Kim Tuan.
Thach Kim Tuan, the biggest hope of Vietnam at this tournament, entered competitions before Toan. However, Tuan ranked fourth in finale, with 269kg in total.
As the seventh performer, Toan was very calm. With 279kg in total, Toan won the silver medal. A Chinese athlete, Li Fabin, won the gold medal--though he also lifted 279kg in total like Toan. The reason is his weight is 800gr less than Toan’s. The bronze medal went to Indonesia’s Setiadi Jadi.
As Li Fabin and Setiadi Jadi had won tickets to the Olympic, the only ticket for the men’s 56kg category is presented to Toan.
Four months ago, Toan won the gold medal at the men’s 56kg category at the Southeast Asian Games 2011.
