Janine Freuling had a long trip to Vietnam after five years of living and working in Bali, Indonesia. She chose to visit Da Nang because it is a livable city and suitable for her digital nomad life.
Janine revealed that she likes Vietnam’s coffee and was surprised as there are so many coffee versions. During her first days in Da Nang, she spent time to try some versions of coffee, which were ‘both familiar and strange’ to her.
She tried six coffee versions in Da Nang, from the common ones such as coconut coffee, salt coffee and egg coffee, to strange ones, such as peanut coffee, cheese coffee and yogurt coffee.
The coffee has a strong flavor and very reasonable price from VND32,000 to VND39,000.
The traveler said she was impressed not only by the coffee products, but also the way people enjoyed coffee in Da Nang – street coffee style.
“You can see small tables and chairs on pavements like these. These are the places where you can sit and enjoy coffee in the open air,” she explained.
After tasting six coffee versions, Janine said each had specific flavor and comments about them would vary depending on taste.
The peanut coffee tasted okay but it was too thick and viscous. She had never tried yogurt coffee before, saying she was not aware that coffee and yogurt could be mixed together.
She praised the egg coffee and cheese coffee for their flavor and low price of VND39,000. The cheese coffee was a perfect mixture of sweetness and saltiness.
However, the salt and coconut coffee were the two versions she liked the most. Commenting about the flavor, she gave 9.5/10 score to salt coffee and 8/10 to coconut coffee.
Coconut coffee had a very strong flavor, associated with coconut cream and crispy dried coconut, while salt coffee was like salted whipped cream but still sweet, not too salty.
Janine said the trip to Da Nang was interesting and that she had learned more about Vietnamese drinks prepared with creative recipes.
