Westlife The Hits Tour 2024 enthralls Hanoi audiences
Thousands of Westlife fans packed out the My Dinh Indoor Athletics Arena in Hanoi on June 4, chanting the names of their heroes from the Irish boy band and singing along with their idols at a concert held as part of Westlife The Hits Tour 2024.
The My Dinh Indoor Athletics Arena is packed with hordes of Vietnamese fans who welcome back the Irish boy band in two concerts on June 4 – 5.
British band 911, invited as special guests, open the show with their song “Party People Friday Night”.
They then perform their big hits such as “The Day We Find Love”, “How Do You Want Me To Love You”, and “I Do”, receiving rounds of thunderous applause from local fans.
A few minutes later, the stage is lit up once again with the arrival of legendary Irish music group Westlife.
This is the third time they have come back to Vietnam following their concerts in 2011 and 2023 as parts of their Westlife Gravity Tour and The Wild Dreams Tour respectively.
In their return to Vietnam this time, apart from Kian Egan, Nicky Byrne and Shane Filan, Mark Feehily has not been able to join the tour due to health problems.
Shane Filan, the head and lead singer of the pop vocal group, opens their performance with the famous hit “World Of Our Own”.
Formed in Dublin in 1998, the band originally consisted of Shane Filan, Mark Feehily, Kian Egan, Nicky Byrne and Brian McFadden, but McFadden decided to leave the group in 2004. After a 14-year career the band eventually disbanded in 2012 before later reuniting in 2018.
During their performance the three men play their sweetest love songs, many of which were hugely popular among Vietnamese audiences in the 1990s and 2000s, such as “My Love”, “I Lay My Love on You”, “Fool Again”, “Soledad”, “Uptown Girl”, “Seasons In The Sun”, “Flying Without Wings”, and “Swear It Again”.
Nicky Byrne is keen on interacting with fans, although he sometimes forgets the lyrics when the group performs “Seasons In The Sun”.
A female fan is invited to take part in an exchange with the Irish band.
For many Vietnamese born in the 1980s and 1990s, Westlife's love songs are associated with a period of adolescence, specifically a youth full of romance and memories.
Westlife come together with their fan to sing “Safe” and “You Raise Me Up”.
The first concert in Hanoi as part of Westlife The Hits Tour 2024 closes with familiar melody of “My Love”. They will hold the second concert in Hanoi on June 5 before touring Malaysia, Indonesia, and China.
