The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has released its latest report on airline punctuality, revealing that VietJet Air, Vietnam Airlines, and Vietravel had the highest rates of flight delays and cancellations in February.

During the month, Vietnam’s six domestic airlines - Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air, Pacific Airlines, VASCO, Bamboo Airways, and Vietravel - operated a total of 22,137 flights.

VietJet Air led in flight volume with 9,825 flights, followed by Vietnam Airlines with 9,323 and Bamboo Airways with 1,295. However, VietJet Air also topped the list for delays, with 4,680 out of 9,825 flights failing to depart on time. This means nearly half of all VietJet Air flights in February were delayed.

Similarly, Vietnam Airlines recorded 2,000 delayed or canceled flights, while Vietravel operated 444 flights but only 292 were on time, with 154 affected by delays or cancellations.

By contrast, Pacific Airlines and Bamboo Airways had the highest rates of on-time departures, at 87.5% and 83%, respectively.

Causes of delays and cancellations

According to CAAV, late aircraft arrivals were the primary cause of flight delays. VietJet Air reported 2,418 late-arriving flights, followed by Vietnam Airlines with 1,403 and Vietravel with 110.

Cancellations were attributed to various factors, including weather conditions and technical issues. Vietnam Airlines had the highest number of canceled flights at 50, while other airlines recorded between 1 and 14 cancellations.

In response to these issues, CAAV has issued a directive urging airlines to improve service quality. The agency has also tasked airport authorities with directly monitoring all cases of flight delays and cancellations, ensuring airlines fulfill their obligations to passengers in accordance with regulations.
