VietNamNet Bridge - More than 100 white horses with blue eyes are being raised on a farm on the bank of the Red River, Hanoi.
Situated on the Red River bank, the Ba Van white horse farm has more than 100 pure white horses which are especially cared for, for genetic conservation of Vietnam.
Seven years ago, the Livestock Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development announced that Vietnam had 300 white horses.
Workers on the farm said that it is not too complicated to take care of Vietnamese white horses. These white horses enjoy special care because they eat more than the others.
The purebred horse can be differentiated by normal eyes because some body parts must be in pink color, including mouth, eyes, nails and genitals.
As Vietnamese white horses are small, the farm breeds Tibet horses together in order to improve this disadvantage.
The farm sells baby horses of 8-10 months old, at the prices of VND20-25 million ($1,000-1,200).
Horses are fed with grass twice and with bran once a day. In winter, they are not bathed or set free much.
The white horse species in Vietnam is mainly distributed in the three northeastern provinces of Lang Son, Cao Bang and Bac Giang.
Horses are mature after 10 months and can reproduce after one year.
Pure white horses have blue eyes, wide muzzle and pink genitals. |
