Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City have arrested N.C.P., a 48-year-old man from Vinh Long, after he broke into the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden and stole a rare white swan.
The case was reported to police early on January 26 when the zoo’s management discovered one of its white swans missing. At the scene, officers found a pair of metal cutters left behind near the bird enclosure.

The Saigon Ward police swiftly secured the area, reviewed surveillance footage and cross-referenced parking lot data to narrow down the suspect. Their investigation led to N.C.P., who was apprehended while hiding in Duc Hoa Commune, Tay Ninh Province.
At the police station, the suspect confessed to breaking into the zoo and stealing the swan, which he then transported to Can Tho and sold to a local resident to get money for personal use.
A special police unit traveled overnight to Can Tho in search of the bird. At around 5:30 a.m. the next morning, the team located the swan and successfully rescued it.

The swan was returned to Ho Chi Minh City under the care of police officers and veterinary staff. It has since been handed back to the Saigon Zoo, reportedly in good health and free of any injuries.
Authorities are now building a case against N.C.P. for theft and are expanding the investigation to identify individuals involved in the illegal sale and purchase of the stolen animal.
