VietNamNet Bridge – Herds of deer from the central province of Thua Thien Hue's Sao La Conservation Reserve have broken into a rubber plantation in A Luoi District, destroying over 22ha of trees in the last few days.

The district's People's Committee chairman Ho Xuan Trang said that this was the first time the phenomenon had been reported since 31 local households started growing rubber in the buffer zone of the reserve about three years ago.

Locals sent their complaints to the authorities and asked the park management board for compensation.

Most of the households reportedly had to borrow from the Social Policy Bank to start up the plantations, so the district has loaned them around VND500 million (US$ 24,000) to cover interest costs.
