“Mu co chay” film crew receives the Golden Kite Award.
“Mui co chay” is one of the two state-funded movies competing at the Golden Kite Awards 2012. The film-making team also received a certificate of merit from the General Department of Politics of Vietnam People’s Army for the best war feature film.
“Hotboy noi loan” (Lost in paradise) by Vu Ngoc Dang, which had been considered as a big rival in the feature film category, was presented the best feature film award voted by the press. Hieu Hien was named “best supporting actor” for his role in this movie.
The Silver Kite Award went to “Long Ruoi” (The big boss) and “Saigon Yo!” This is a big surprise because they are both commercial films, which are not highly appreciated for illogical details.
However, chief judge, People’s Artist Bui Dinh Hac, explained that the criteria are different annually. This year the jury emphasized the creativeness, national characteristics, humanity and social effects. He said that the two movies were appreciated for their sociality.
The Vietnamese American director of “Long Ruoi,” Chalie Nguyen, took the Best Director award. The film also helped Thai Hoa to win the Best Actor award and Tina Tinh, also a Vietnamese American, to receive the Best Supporting Actress award.
Tina Tinh’s award is also a big surprise because her performance in this movie was not highly praised. In 2003, Tina Tinh won the Promising Young Actress title of the Golden Kite Award 2003 for her role in “The Joke of the God of Thunder.”
Quynh Hoa, who acts as Kim in “Sai Gon Yo”, was honoured as Best Actress.
Directors Bui Dinh Hac and Dang Nhat Minh were honoured for their contributions to the development of the national cinema.
This year’s prestigious award drew 137 entries that compete in seven categories, including scientific, documentary, short films, cartoon and TV series.
The Golden Kite Awards 2012 will be held in HCM City next March.
The Golden Kite Awards, which first started in 2003, is an annual event organized by Vietnam Cinema Association for feature, video and television films produced in the preceding year.
