WIPO Director General Daren Tang will visit and work in Vietnam.

On September 25-26, Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), will visit Vietnam at the invitation of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) to deepen cooperation in intellectual property (IP) and innovation.

The centerpiece of the visit will be talks between the Minister of Science and Technology and the WIPO Director General. Discussions will focus on global trends in intellectual property and innovation, Vietnam’s strategic direction in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, as well as proposals to enhance IP and innovation activities in the coming years.

During the visit, MOST and WIPO will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in intellectual property. This comprehensive agreement will cover policy development, IP legislation, public awareness, human resource training, business support, and capacity building for Vietnam’s national IP office. The MoU will mark a new chapter in Vietnam-WIPO cooperation, especially as global priorities shift from protecting rights to commercializing IP. It also highlights MOST’s leading role in guiding Vietnam’s IP development in the new era.

As part of the program, the WIPO Director General will attend the launch of the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2025 report. The event will present Vietnam’s latest GII results, updates to methodology, insights into innovation trends, and the country’s future prospects.

Another highlight will be Tang’s working session with the National Office of Intellectual Property (NOIP), where achievements in past collaboration with WIPO will be reviewed and future directions outlined. He will also hold a dialogue with Vietnamese youth at the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology under the theme: “WIPO and building an intellectual property ecosystem to drive innovation for Vietnam’s young generation.”

WIPO and MOST will also launch the Intellectual Property and Innovation Cooperation Alliance, which will include initiatives such as localizing WIPO’s e-learning programs for Vietnam, hosting an annual WIPO Summer School, brand-building, intangible asset management, IP valuation, and engaging startups in Vietnam’s innovation ecosystem. A showcase of young Vietnamese innovators’ products will also be featured.

In addition, Tang will meet with Vietnamese government leaders and hold bilateral discussions with Viettel Group, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to strengthen Vietnam’s international cooperation in IP.
