VietNamNet Bridge – A woman in the southern province of Tra Vinh on Monday, December 30, caught a giant carp of nearly 120kg, 1.2m long in the Tien River.
The giant carp.
The fisherwoman – Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hau – saw the big fish trapped in her nets yesterday noon. She then went to a nearby market to find a buyer.
A man offered VND10 million ($500) to release the fish but Hau did not agree.
In the afternoon of the same day, a man from HCM City offered VND1.25 million ($60) per kilo or VND150 million ($7,500) for the fish and paid a VND20 million ($1,000) deposit.
From noon to evening, while waiting for the buyer to come to take the fish, hundreds of curious people flocked to the river to see the giant carp.
This was one of several giant carps caught by fishermen from the Mekog Delta River this year.
