Dr. Cao Minh Nhut - Chief of the Can Tho Obstetrics Hospital said that on November 23, the hospital received an 18-year-old woman from Rach Soi district, Kien Giang province, who delivered a baby on the way to the hospital. Luckily both the mother and the baby were healthy.

Earlier, a person called to the hospital’s hot line to report that a woman gave birth to a baby girl in a motel in Ninh Kieu district of Can Tho city. An ambulance was sent to the motel to pick up the woman and her baby to the hospital. It was a baby girl, weighing 3.1kg.

At the hospital, the mother said she was a homeless. At about 11pm on November 22, while she was walking on the road, a man offered her VND100,000 ($10) and she agreed. She followed the man to a motel in Ninh Kieu District for having sex.

At about 3am on November 23, the woman began labor and gave birth to a baby girl about 15 minutes later. Seeing the scene, the whoremonger was frightened and ran away.

The woman said she was a native from Ca Mau province. Her parents were divorced when she was a child. She lived with her mother and her stepfather in Kien Giang. Three years ago she left home to Can Tho and became a homeless and a prostitute.

According to Dr. Nhut, the hospital took care of the woman and her baby for several days and then brought her to her mother’s home in Kien Giang for free.
