Construction of a $70.16 million passenger terminal at Cat Bi International Airport in Hai Phong City was kicked off on January 24 by the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) and the People’s Committee of the northern city.
The new terminal is capable of handling 4 million passengers per year and serving 1,000 passengers during rush hour.
The new two-storey terminal will serve both domestic and international flights and is designed with the buffalo motif as Hai Phong is well known for its traditional buffalo fighting festival.
The new terminal, scheduled to be completed and become operational in the fourth quarter of 2016, is capable of handling 4 million passengers per year and serving 1,000 passengers during rush hour.
The current terminal is able to serve only 800,000 passengers per year.
According to the municipal People’s Committee, Cat bi International Airport has an important role in the socio-economic development of Hai Phong city and the northeastern region. It is also the standby for Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi.
