Creative arts therapy is a collaborative partnership between the therapist and the client, in engaging and supporting acts of creativity and reflection that foster healing, growth and resilience.
The therapist uses himself or herself as an instrument and tool of practice and engages in a life-long learning through reflection, creative processes, self care and supervision. The theoretical basis is formed by integrative theory, person-centered psychodynamic therapy, relational and systemic approaches, and multimodal use of the creative arts.
The creativity philosophy is that everyone is creative and to be creative is to be human. Creativity naturally promotes and supports resilience, health and healing.
The three-day workshop, under the theme “Understanding and Navigating Trauma and Resilience”, is designed to give participants an overview and experiential exploration of psychological emergency response, psychological first aid, neuroscience of trauma, spiritual trauma care, application of creative arts therapy in responding to trauma and building resilience, and how ritual and ceremony can be an important part of trauma recovery.
The event is suitable for professionals or anyone interested in professional training in working with people who have experienced trauma or would like to build resilience.
Trauma can be defined as a psychological, emotional response to an event or an experience that is deeply distressing or disturbing.
Everyone is likely to experience a traumatic event in their life, which is almost unavoidable. Everyone’s experience of traumatic events will be different, and how people are affected, cope and recover varies greatly.
Most commonly, the term resilience has come to mean an individual’s ability to overcome adversity and continue his or her normal development.
During the workshop, participants will be exploring a culturally appropriate and creative response to managing trauma and building resilience.
