VietNamNet Bridge – The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee and the Republic of Korea's Gyeongsangbuk-do province authorities signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the co-organization of the 25 day long World Cultural Festival 2017 in the province this week.

The province is home to many UNESCO world culture heritage sites in the Republic of Korea (RoK).

The MoU was signed after a courtesy visit by HCMC Party Chief Dinh La Thang to governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do province Kim Kwan Yong, following activities in the eight day visit to RoK of a city’s delegation.

It is expected that the festival will be attended by senior leaders of Vietnam and RoK, highlighting the contributions in developing the cultural exchange relationship between the two nations and the two localities.

According to the MoU, the festival is scheduled to take place in HCMC within 25 days in November next year, showcasing art shows, exhibitions, movies and trade promotion.

Secretary Dinh La Thang said that HCMC had the honor of being chosen to organize the festival. That showed the important role of the city in the overall cooperation relationship between the two countries.

The MoU signing will be a basis for authorized agencies of the two countries to continue debating and building a detailed project, ensuring the success of the festival, he added.

Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do province Kim Kwan Yong said that the event will clearly show the diversification in cooperative activities between RoK and Vietnam.

It is an important factor taking the two sides’ citizens to further near each other, creating a firm and long foundation for the strategic cooperative relationship between the two countries, he stated.

At present, about 10,000 Vietnamese brides are living stably in families in the province. Mr. Kim hoped that the festival will maximize special characters in the culture, country and human of the two nations.

Besides cultural exchange increase, HCMC has made efforts to seek opportunities for the city’s economic development, said Secretary Dinh La Thang.

Mr. Thang invited businesses in the province to invest in major infrastructure development projects including metro, monorail routes, anti flooding, environmental pollution reduction and urban planning and development in the city.

These investments will tighten cooperative relations between HCMC and Korean localities including Gyeongsangbuk-do, he said.

Right after the signing ceremony, the city’s delegation visited Hahoe village recognized as a world cultural heritage in 2010.
