On February 23, the cars of Rally The Globe stopped the journey at F1 My Dinh racetrack in Hanoi, after going through Vietnam. Cambodia, Thailand and Laos. This is the first journey of Rally The Globe to Southeast Asia since its establishment in 2018.

The group of super-cars initially comprised 26 cars, not including logistics and technical support vehicles. However, after 27 days with 7,000 kilometers of travel, the journey ended in My Dinh with just 23 cars. The other three cars had to leave halfway because of breakdowns, which was not a surprise as the cars are nearly one hundred years old.

Rockne Six 75 1932 was the first unlucky car when its gear box broke down when it departed in Dai Nam (Binh Duong) to Da Lat January 28 (first day). After one day of staying in HCM City for repair with the support of the Sai Gon Classic Car Club, the problem was fixed and it continued its journey. The drivers of the car were a Swiss couple.

However, the car once again broke down in Cambodia and had to end the journey.

The second car that had to leave was an Aston Martin Mark II 1934. The car broke down in the last stage when it was very close to the finish line. The serious breakdown forced the 89-year-old car to carry to Hanoi by ambulance.

However, its two owners from the UK later got the support from the organizing board and 4U Tours, which provided legal procedures and logistics services in Vietnam to borrow a Porsche 911 to experience the journey from Ha Long to Hanoi.

On February 23, nearly 20 classic cars of Hanoi classic car club were present in F1 My Dinh to welcome the world’s classic cars. Most of them were a Volkswagen Beetle of the capital city’s beetle club. There were also other rare and precious cars, including Nissan Datsun Sports 1969, Triumph Spitfire, Volkswagen Thing and Land Rover Series II.

Nguyen Manh Hiep, a fan of classic cars, said he was excited to see the classic cars. “The cars are even older than my grandpa. Surprisingly, they could accelerate very quickly,” he said.

Keith Ashworth, the owner of a Bentley 4½ Le Mans 1927 series, the oldest car, said he had a wonderful journey. He said Vietnam is one of the most beautiful countries in the world and he wants to return here.
