The World Federation of Vietnamese Martial Arts (WFVMA) announced its establishment on August 8 in Hanoi, serving as an official and legal organisation and a common house for those with a love for Vietnamese martial arts around the world.
The WFVMA’s operation abides by general and basic principles of the Olympic Charter and the World Anti-Doping Agency with a mission to preserve the true value of genuine sportsmanship while promoting Vietnamese martial arts.
Speaking at the event, Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia and Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Olympics Committee Hoang Vinh Giang hailed that Vietnamese traditional martial arts is a long-standing cultural heritage of Vietnamese people as its establishment and development has strong attachment to the country’s construction and defence.
Giang, who is also Chairman of the Vietnam Traditional Martial Arts Federation, said that Vietnamese martial arts is not only a set of exercises improving physical strength and enhancing self-defence capacity for the harmony between the body and the mind, it also helps inspire patriotism, sportsmanship and humanity among trainees.
The establishment of the WFVMA is a significant landmark in the formation of a organisation in charge of managing Vietnamese martial arts with a standardised system of rankings, competition rule and technical expertise while devising a strategy for the widely developing the sport around the world, he stated.
Delegates at the event approved the regulations and an action plan for the 2015-2020 period of the federation. A 56-member executive committee of the federation was also elected with Hoang Vinh Giang elected President.
