World leaders congratulate VN on reunification day
Lao and Russian leaders have sent their congratulatory messages to Vietnamese leaders on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of liberation of southern Vietnam and national reunification day (April 30).
Party General Secretary and State President Chummaly Sayasone, Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong, and National Assembly Chairwoman Pany Yathotu of Laos sent messages of congratulations to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.
The messages underscored that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and with Vietnamese people’s determination, Vietnam defeated neocolonialists, paving the way for the Ho Chi Minh Campaign’s victory and ultimate national reunification.
This victory has been the pride of Vietnamese, Lao people and peace lovers worldwide. The liberation of southern Vietnam in 1975 created important opportunities for the victory of Laos’ struggle for independence and the establishment of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic on December 2, 1975, the messages said.
In his message cabled to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Russian President V. Putin said this great day is a reminder of the courage, steadfastness, and heroism of Vietnamese people during their arduous struggle to defend their rights to freedom and independence. Those past struggle days tested the firm foundations built for the two nations’ friendship and cooperation.
He expressed his belief that built on the glorious tradition of the past, the two countries will progress forward their mutually beneficial relations, meeting fully the two people’s benefits as well as safeguarding peace, stability and security in the Asia-Pacific.
Putin sent a wish for happiness and prosperity to the entire Vietnamese people.
Vietnam’s April 30 victory in foreign media spotlight
Argentinean and Venezuelan media have given a wide coverage to the 40th anniversary of the total liberation of southern Vietnam and national reunification on April 30.
Telam news agency of Argentina ran five articles about Vietnam, which hailed the April 30 victory and the role of President Ho Chi Minh and General Vo Nguyen Giap.
It also published an article by Vietnamese ambassador to Argentina Nguyen Dinh Thao to express his gratitude to peace loving people around the world for supporting Vietnam’s past struggle for national independence. Argentina’s Latin America News Review, meanwhile, summarized Vietnam’s two wars of resistance against French colonialists and US imperialists.
German media also covered this important event in Vietnam’s history. DLF radio station featured Vietnam’s development after 40 years since the war ended and the New Germany newspaper examined the Vietnam-US relations over the past four decades.
PM welcomes international delegations
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on April 30 received senior delegations of Laos, Cambodia, and Cuba on a visit to Vietnam to attend
ceremonies marking the 40th anniversary of total southern liberation and national reunification in Ho Chi Minh City
The delegations are led by Laos’ Vice President Buonhang Volachit, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Men Sam An, and Secretary of the
Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (CPC) and Head of its International Relations Department, Jose Ramon Balaguer Cabrera.
PM Dung attributed Vietnam’s April 30th victory to the support of communist countries including the Soviet Union, China, Laos, Cambodia, Cuba, and international friends.
Dung and his guests agreed on more efforts to foster the fine traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos,
Cambodia, and Cuba, for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and the world.
Deputy PM greets Reunification Day guests
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc hosted a reception in Ho Chi Minh City on April 30 for international guests who attended a ceremony celebrating the 40th anniversary of the liberation of South Vietnam and National Reunification Day.
The guests include more than 100 individuals and representatives from international organisations from 40 nations and territories across the world.
Deputy PM Phuc acknowledged their contribution to the Vietnam’s historic victory as well as in its nation building and protection.
The guests shared the views on the 1975 triumph, saying that it was not only significant to Vietnamese people but also to peace-lovers around the world.
They also praised the positive achievements Vietnam has made over the past 40 years.
Laos military hails Vietnam’s 1975 victory
A commemorative meeting was held by the Lao Ministry of National Defence on April 30 in the country’s capital, Vientiane, to mark the 40th anniversary of Vietnam’s Southern Liberation and National Reunification.
The event was attended by Deputy Defence Minister, Sen. Lieut. Gen. Chansamon Channhalat, Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos, Nguyen Manh Hung, and representatives from the Vietnamese overseas and business community in Laos.
During the event, the General discussed the historic victory, describing it as an event that shook the world. He said that it is not only a milestone in the history of Vietnam, as the triumph inspired the revolutions of the Lao and Cambodian people and was supported by peace-lovers around the world.
He hailed the sound leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the late President Ho Chi Minh and the solidarity of the Vietnamese people for their role in the 1975 victory.
The Party, the State and the people of Laos pledge to continue their comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam, protecting and consolidating their special friendship, the Lao deputy minister proclaimed.
The anniversary has been marked across Laos, with a number of documentary films screened exploring the war, the victory and the aftermath. The Lao media has widely covered the events of April 1975 and hailed the achievements Vietnam has made in the four decades since.
On the other side of the world, the anniversary has also been marked. On April 28, the Vietnamese Embassy in Mexico and the Mexico-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarian Group held a celebratory meeting.
Addressing the event, Mexican Labour Party (PT) General Secretary and President of the Parliamentarian Group, Alberto Anaya Gutiérrez, hailed the significance of triumph forty years ago. He said Vietnam set a shining example with its determination to fight for independence, inspiring other countries around the world.
He wished yet greater success for the Vietnamese people in 2015 and and wished the nation well in its drive to become a modern and industrialised country by 2020.
Lao, Cambodia leaders praise Vietnam's reunification victory
Lao Vice President Bounnhang Volachit has highlighted the significance of the April 30th victory as a great victory of Laotian and Cambodian people as well.
Volachit, who is in Hanoi to attend the 40th anniversary of the liberation of southern Vietnam and national reunification, was received on April 29 by Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan.
The two leaders reviewed the special solidarity, friendship, and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, governments, and people, which is developing strongly in all fields.
They agreed on continuing to closely cooperate with other ASEAN members for a successful establishment of an ASEAN Community by the end of 2015, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region. Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan said that Vietnam will support Laos in assuming ASEAN presidency in 2016.
