VietNamNet Bridge – Writer Nguyen Quang Sang died yesterday (Feb 13) in his home in HCM City at the age of 83 after a long battle with illness, his son, film director Nguyen Quang Dung said.

Born in the southern province of An Giang's My Luong Commune in Cho Moi District, Sang joined the Vietnamese army and fought against the French in the south.

In 1954 he relocated to the north to begin his writing career. During the war against the US he returned to the south joining the resistance war and continued his writing cause.

He has written countless works, such as Chiec Luoc Nga (The Ivory Comb), Mua Gio Chuong (Changing Wind).

Sang also received a host of awards, including the Ho Chi Minh Prize.

Dung said his father's funeral will be announced today.
