Young golfer Anh wins silver in world championships

Andy Dang Quang Anh of Viet Nam won a silver medal at the Kids Golf World Championships that concluded in Malaysia last week.

Anh came second in the Allamanda U9 Boys category, with a result of 13-over 229 after three days of competition.

Pongsapak Laopakdee of Thailand was ranked first with a 9-over 225 score, while Daryl Low Meng Tiang of Singapore took the bronze, scoring 26-over 242.

It is the second time that Andy has ended in the top three in a world tournament for children. In last year's tournament, he finished second in the U8 category.

Andy is one of the 10 Vietnamese competitors in Malaysia.

Ngo Le Hoang Nam Phuong ranked sixth in the girls' U14 and Dang Minh Anh was placed 10th in the boys' U10 event.

The competition, which is being held for the third consecutive year in Malaysia, is the international edition of the US Kids Golf tournament, and provides an excellent opportunity to young players to compete and earn world amateur ranking points.

Cuong plays Thanh Hoa under one-year contract

Midfielder Cao Sy Cuong has signed a contract with V-League's Thanh Hoa just a month ahead of the new season.

Cuong was born and grew up in Thanh Hoa Province, but he has been known to wear jerseys of clubs in Ha Noi.

He played a key role in Ha Noi T&T's 2010 and 2013 championship titles. He was called to the national team in 2013.

Coach Vu Quang Bao said Cuong is the last piece of the puzzle for the club team.

Thanh Hoa ranked third in last season and are targeted to be in top three in the coming year.

Nhan wins Ha Noi-Bac Kan stage of cycling tournament

Tran Nguyen Duy Nhan of Military 2 won the 10th stage of the Trans-Viet cycling tournament yesterday.

Nhan biked 155km from Ha Noi's suburban district of Soc Son to Bac Kan Province for the race, ending with a time of 3 hours and 55.20 minutes.

Nguyen Huu Tien of Ha Noi came second, followed by Do Tri Dung of Vinamit HCM City.

Finishing in the second group nearly 2min later, Nguyen Thanh Tam of Gao Hat Ngoc Troi An Giang maintained tour leader status with a total time of 28:12.06.

Le Ngoc Son of Domesco Dong Thap 1 and Ariya Phounsanath of Laos' CCN Team were the runners-up.

Domesco Dong Thap topped the team ranking. ADC-Vinh Long Television came in second and HCM City third.

Participants will cycle from Bac Kan to Cao Bang Province during the 11th stage today. Riders will have to conquer five steep hills: Giang, Gio, Khau Khang, Cao Bac and Tai Ho Sin.

HCM City continue winning in billiards and snooker

Duong Quoc Hoan of HCM City yesterday beat Da Nang's Hoang Dai Thien 7-2 to take the men's 10-ball individual final during the National Sports Games.

Earlier his teammate Tran Quyet Chien pocketed the men's 3-cushion carom individual event after defeating Do Duc Hien of Can Tho 40-31.

With two titles in the last day of billiards and snooker, HCM City proved their power in the sport, winning six out of 11.

In weightlifting, Nguyen Minh Quang of HCM City set three Games records and got three gold medals in the men's U105kg category. He took the gold in jerk and clean (175kg), snatch (147kg) and total lift (322kg).

Pham Van Hung from Ha Noi also grabbed three new records in the men's over-105kg class.

His lifts of 180kg in jerk and clean, 146kg in snatch and 326kg total brought him three gold medals.

Unarmed Martial Arts Festival 2014 in Hanoi

Five hundred athletes from 20 military units and educational institutions are competing in the Unarmed Martial Arts Festival 2014 at Mieu Mon National Training Centre in Hanoi on December 12-18.

The athletes were divided into three groups: male commissioned and non-commissioned officers and defense employees compete in nine weight categories from under 51kg to 80kg, female commissioned and non-commissioned officers and defense employees attend six weight categories from under 51kg to 64kg, and the enlisted soldiers participate in nine weight categories from under 51kg to 80kg.

They are competing to win 98 gold, silver and bronze medals.
