VietNamNet Bridge – A young man in Dong Phu district in Binh Phuoc province is living with a goiter of nearly 3kg. This tumor is still growing.
Mai Nhat Linh, 17, said that he had to quit school at the age of 7 because of this goiter. He said he has trouble in eating and breathing because of the goiter, especially at night.

The goiter is nearly 20cm long, 9cm thick at present and it keeps growing.

Linh had two goiters which are as big as lemons at birth. Because of poverty, Linh’s parents could not afford to treat the goiter.

Doctors said that Linh’s case is very rare. In late August 2011, the Can Tho Polyclinic performed a surgery for an 84-year-old patient from the southern province of Vinh Long to free her from a goiter of around 1kg and another tumor of nearly 1.5kg near her ear. This patient carried the tumors for nearly 30 years.

In late March, doctors of the Hanoi Tumor Hospital also cut off a nearly 5kg goiter for a 57-year-old woman in Hanoi. This woman also carried the tumor for nearly 30 years.
