A member of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang provides free health check to a local resident as part of a volunteer campaign held every summer nationwide.

In Can Tho City in the Mekong Delta, for instance, three campaigns will be carried out: Mua He Xanh (Green Summer), Hoa Phuong Do (Red Flamboyant), and Tiep Suc Mua Thi (assistance for candidates in the national high school graduation examination).

The campaigns are expected to attract nearly 50,000 people from the city’s unions, universities and State organisations.

In the Mua He Xanh campaign in Can Tho, at least 20 teams of young volunteers will visit farmers’ houses to offer training in advanced farming techniques. Farmers will also learn about the national new rural building programme and protection of water sources.

During the summer, the volunteers in the city will help repair rural streets and irrigation systems, and provide free health exams and medicine to the poor and to people covered by State welfare policies.

The young volunteers in Can Tho will also donate blood, which will be stored at a centre and provided to patients during emergencies.

In the Hoa Phuong Do Campaign, young volunteers in the city will provide free meals to the elderly who have no relatives, to heroic mothers and those with financial difficulties.

The Tiep Suc Mua Thi Campaign, to be carried out from June 20 to 25 in the city, will ask organisations and individuals to provide free or inexpensive meals and accommodations to eligible candidates.

The volunteers also will help police maintain traffic order in an aim to limit congestion on the streets.

In Tien Giang Province, members of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union plan to hold similar activities in addition to upgrading or building new children’s playgrounds in every district and town in the province.

A forum in the province will also be held for young enterprises and startups to share business experiences.

The Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union is organising other campaigns for young people in 64 poor districts and islands in the rest of the country, including Co To Island in Quang Ninh Province, Bach Long Vy in Hai Phong City and Ly Son in Quang Ngai Province.

Young volunteers will also do work this summer in Cambodia and Laos.
