Young shooters blast national records

A new tournament record was set yeasterday at the National Youth Shooting Championships in Ha Noi.

Bui Hong Phong of HCM City made history in the men's 25m rapid fire pistol event at the National Sports Training Centre by shooting 574 points in the individual pool, four more than the previous record set by Hanoian Pham Anh Dat four years ago.

His teammate Phan Xuan Chuyen came second with a result of 552 points, followed by Nguyen Dinh Dong of the Military with 550.

Phong set another record in the team class with 1,661 points, breaking the old record of set two years ago by the HCM City squad.

Hai Duong marksman Phan Huu Duc took a gold in the men's 10m air rifle category with 588 points. His result equalled the tournament record set by Bui Anh Tung last year.

Hanoian Nguyen Van Dung and Tran Viet Cuong were runners-up.

Dung and his teammates however won the team event with 1,724 points.

HCM City were second, followed by Vinh Phuc.

Hosts Ha Noi pocketed their second gold yesterday in the men's running target rifle individual.

Nguyen Cong Dau topped the table with 545 points, followed by Luong Van Nghia of the Military and Ngo Truong Phuc, another Hanoian.

Their third title came in the team event with a score of 1,553 points, 36 clear of the Military.

After two days of competition, HCM City top the medals tally with three titles, followed by Ha Noi and Hai Duong.

Nearly 200 athletes from 13 delegations are taking part in the annual tournament 10 categories for men and 10 for women until August 4.

New record set at national youth shooting tournament

A new tournament record has been set at the National Youth Shooting Championships in Ha Noi.

Three shooters, Le Phuong Nga, Phan Thi Phuong Thuy and Do Thi Trang of Dong Nai Province, set a new record in the women's 25-metre pistol team event, with a final result of 1,678 points. They beat the old record of 1,676 points set by Hai Duong shooters last year.

HCM City and Hai Duong were placed second and third in the pistol event.

Nga, Thuy and Trang also took the top three places, respectively, in the individual pool event.

Tieu Cong Dat of Hai Duong won the men's 50-metre pistol event with 519 points. His teammate Ngo Quoc Hung came second, followed by Hanoian Ngo Quoc Vu.

Nguyen Thi Ngan from Vinh Phuc triumphed in the women's 10-metre air rifle event, with 391 points, while Hai Duong's Nguyen Thi Thu Trang and Pham Thi Chau from HCM City were the runners-up.

Today, the men's 10-metre air rifle, 25-metre rapid fire pistol and 10-metre running target events will be held.

About 200 sportspersons from 13 teams are taking part in the tournament at the capital's Sports Training Centre. They will compete in 10 men's events and 10 women's events in the tournament which will end on August 4.

Ha Noi 1 top national tournament table again

Ha Noi 1 returned to top the table in the National Women's Football Championship after a brilliant 5-1 victory over HCM City yesterday in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province.

The defending champions now have 20 points from nine matches. They have two points more than the runners-up Phong Phu Ha Nam, who will play THG Thai Nguyen today.

HCM City could only score once in the 32nd minute before witnessing the opposition score goal after goal in both halves of the match.

In the last round next week, Ha Noi 1 will play Viet Nam Coal and Minerals, who yesterday beat Ha Noi 2 2-0 in a later match.

The win helped Viet Nam Coal and Minerals replace HCM City in third place with 12 points.
